The 2009 First-Year Player Draft was conducted on June 9 & 10. The deadline to sign draft selections (who hadn't exhausted their college eligibility) was August 15, 2009.[1] Overall, the Rays signed 31 of their 50 selections. The failure to sign either of their first two draft picks (LeVon Washington and Kenny Diekroeger, both of whom were drafted and signed by other clubs in subsequent years) is considered the biggest failure of this draft class.
