In 2001, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization sent several players to the Arizona Fall League.
Devil Rays minor league pitchers Brandon Backe, Delvin James, and Jason Standridge, catcher Paul Hoover, and infielder Jason Smith played for the Maryvale Saguaros that year. Outfielders Carl Crawford and Josh Hamilton were assigned to the Peoria Javelinas.[1]
