- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the City of St. Petersburg agreed on a 30-year lease for Tropicana Field[1] (then known as the ThunderDome, after the building's tenants at the time, the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League).
1998
- Pitcher Julio Santana was claimed off of waivers from Texas.[2]
- Pitcher Terrell Wade was transferred to the 60-day disabled list, retroactive to March 31.[2]
