Chad Edward Gaudin (born March 24, 1983 in Metairie, LA) was a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He was selected by the Devil Rays in the 34th round of the 2001 draft out of Crescent City Baptist in Harahan, LA and was signed on August 23, 2001 by Scout Name.[1]

Amateur Career
Gaudin, who was was listed as 5'9" and 155 lbs. at the time he was drafted, pitched for one of the smallest schools in Louisiana. Still, a line that included 203 strikeouts in 89 innings was enough to pique interest in him.[2] Before being drafted, he had committed to playing collegiate ball for Louisiana State University.[3]
Professional career
Gaudin started his professional career with the Charleston RiverDogs in 2002[4], and was rapidly promoted.
Gaudin made his Major League debut on August 1, 2003 against Kansas City, replacing Joe Kennedy in the 2nd inning of an injury-shortend start.
On December 12, 2004, Tampa Bay traded Gaudin to Toronto in exchange for catcher Kevin Cash.[5]
After the Devil Rays
Gaudin spent most the 2005 season with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate, the Syracuse SkyChiefs, making 5 appearances (3 starts) with the Blue Jays. He was traded again, this time to Oakland for a player to be named later.
Gaudin found the best success of his Major League career in Oakland during the 2006 season when he made 55 appearances out of the bullpen and finished the season 3.09 ERA. For 2007, he was removed from the bullpen and made a career-high 34 starts for the Athletics, impressing most early in the season, going 6-1 with a 2.41 ERA over his first 12 starts.
In July, 2008, Oakland traded Gaudin to the Chicago Cubs, and he has seen time with several clubs since: San Diego, two stints with the New York Yankees, and return to Oakland. In December, 2010, he signed as a free agent with Washington,[4] but following a poor start and an injury, was released on July 21, 2011.[6]
